We Hit the Right Post

We started RECORD XXIX Ensenada San Felipe 250 in first. Jake Arsaga was with me in #55. Coast to Coast, June weekend, and for once the draw handed us clean air instead of someone else's dust.

The first forty miles were technical. We picked lines. We stayed out front. That stretch is where you earn the right to feel good about a truck without getting loud about it yet.

At the highway crossing, second had closed and was right on us. Fine. The next thirty miles are fast, and that is where #55 likes to work. LS3 power. Real speed. Apparently too fast.

I miscalculated a wide turn. We did not make the cattle guard. We hit the right steel post and rolled the truck.

We had built a gap. Rolling a Trophy Truck and clearing oil out of the chambers and plugs eats that gap in a hurry. The desert does not care how clean the first forty looked.

Carlos Cotry and the pit crew were onsite in less than five minutes. They rolled us over and went to work. That is the part I want remembered as much as the lead. We lost Starlink in the crash. Navigation stayed up. We got #55 to Mark Workentine in Valle Trinidad, and Mark took it across the line.

We wanted first. We finished top five. The photo on this piece is the roof of #55 after the post — our truck, our day, our recovery.
