Three points, one weekend: Moreno and Workentine take the Abierta fight to La Raza

Mario Moreno has three points in hand. Mark Workentine has one weekend to take them back.

The RECORD La Raza 200 runs Oct. 2–4. Moreno leads the Clase Abierta standings with 73 points. Workentine sits at 70. Both are on the entry list: Moreno in the #277 out of Ensenada, Workentine in the #55 from Fresno, California.

Three points is nothing in the desert. One flat, one wrong turn, and it's gone.

They won't have it to themselves. Alberto Varela, third in points at 56, brings the #233 from Tijuana. Sergio Rangel carries the #288 up from Santa Clarita. Jack Moncure runs the #1 out of Long Beach. Rick Sanchez (#52, San Vicente), Eli Yee (#111, Tijuana), Jorge Sampietro (#197), Mizael Vega (#248), Luis Castañeda (#80) round out a field ten deep.

Clase 7 has a San Quintín story. Alejandro Aguilar Patiño put the #7047 on the list. He lines up with another San Quintín entry, Jhoan Martínez Ruiz in the #7016, plus Ensenada's Emanuel Vazquez (#7007) and Martin Anguiano (#7005).

Clase 14 might be the tightest fight of the weekend. Jorge Adalberto Garnica Rodriguez leads Alejandro Bustillos by one point, 43 to 42. Both are entered. So is Víctor Manuel Alvarado Cintora, fourth in points. And the class just picked up a late add: Gabriel Sandoval Dominguez, #1440, from Ensenada.

UTV Turbo is the deepest class on the list, with 26 machines. All told, 149 entries are signed up.

After La Raza, one round is left on the RECORD calendar: the Ensenada–Ensenada 500, Dec. 4–6. Whoever leaves this weekend with the points lead gets to defend it there.
