In La Paz this week, the SCORE registration crew has set up at Hotel Catedral, signing up teams from Baja California Sur and across Mexico. The Ensenada office is closed until they come home. Meanwhile the entry list for the 59th Baja 1000 keeps getting longer.

As of Oct. 19 it showed 133 teams, up from 73 on Oct. 8. The field already reaches 30 U.S. states, Puerto Rico and 10 countries: the United States, Mexico, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Japan, Panama and Portugal.

The fast end of the list is taking shape. Trophy Truck has 23 entries across its three divisions: 6 in Trophy Truck, 11 in Trophy Truck 2WD and 6 in Trophy Truck Legend. Trophy Truck Spec has 18. On two wheels, Pro Moto Ironman leads with 21 riders who plan to cover the whole 964.96-mile loop by themselves.

SCORE still expects more than 250 teams when the green flag drops Nov. 13 in San José del Cabo, with bikes leaving at 1am and the four-wheel classes at 9am. The loop stays entirely in Baja California Sur, with a 40-hour limit.

The next few days decide a lot. Race info and GPS files go up Thursday around 6pm. Pre-running opens Saturday at 8am, and only fully paid teams are covered by SCORE insurance while they pre-run. Online registration closes Oct. 28 at 9pm PT. Teams that miss it pay late fees and miss the entry list, the program and the start position draw. Co-drivers and navigators who are not on that list risk being turned away at the border.

Sal Fish and Nacho Monroy serve as grand marshals. In two weeks, the list nearly doubled. In three, the trucks roll.
